Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the both sides of Dahelihe River of Handaqi, Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province. It was named by Wang Ying et al. in 1964.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone, siltstone. The base is marked by light-colored metamorphosed medium-grained feldspathic quartz sandstone. Lower part is sandy conglomerate, feldspathic quartz sandstone and siltstone containing plant fossil fragments. Upper part is siltstone and chlorite slate containing many brachiopods.

Outcrops west of Handaqi are composed of dark-gray siltstone and calcareous clayey slate intercalated with feldspathic greywacke.

This formation is 500 m in thickness.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contacts with the underlying Genlihe Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contacts with the overlying Xiaohelihe Fm of Carboniferous (vague age assignment).

Main brachiopods are: Acrospirifer sp., Cyrtospirifer sp., Spinatrypa sp., Tridensilis sp.
